World's greatest hurdler to compete at Sheffield

The World's greatest hurdler Liu Xiang will compete in the Norwich Union British Grand Prix in Sheffield this summer.

UK Athletics are hoping that Liu's presence at the Don Valley Stadium will be a major attraction for the meeting on Sunday July 15, for which tickets are now on sale.

Liu won gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004, and has since become a huge sporting celebrity in his native China. His fame increased last summer when the Shanghai athlete set a new world record in the 110m hurdles, bettering the mark he previously shared with Britain's greatest ever hurdler, Colin Jackson.

With the Olympics in Beijing only 16 months away and only a handful of races abroad under his belt, the presence of the 23-year-old on the Sheffield start line is expected to attract attention from spectators and athletes alike.

Country Star Trisha Yearwood's Greatest Love Songs Brought Together on ...

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the most popular female singers in country music, three-time Grammy Award winner Trisha Yearwood has epitomized the balance of assertiveness and vulnerability in the genre's modern woman. Nowhere is that more evident than in her greatest love songs, collected for the first time on TRISHA YEARWOOD - LOVE SONGS (MCA Nashville/UMe), available now.

Including tracks from each of her nine non-holiday MCA albums, spanning her career from 1991-2005, TRISHA YEARWOOD - LOVE SONGS features five Top 10 country hits among 14 selections from the woman who was ranked #10 on CMT's "40 Greatest Women Of Country Music" in 2002.

Back in 1991, longtime friend Garth Brooks landed a major tour and invited Yearwood to open all of his shows.

MLK’s birthday breakfast to become annual event in Anderson

ANDERSON — The minds of two Upstate residents looked into the future Tuesday morning as they listened to lines from a Mississippi poet during the city of Anderson's Inaugural Mayor's Breakfast to honor the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

Beverly McAdams of Anderson and Rev. Horace Alexander Jr. of Seneca listened intently as keynote speaker Edward Lynch drew modern parallels to speeches that Dr. King made in the 1960s.

“This is a sign that the city is headed in a multi-cultural direction," said Rev. Alexander, pastor of the New Beginnings Outreach Baptist Church in Seneca at the end of the 60-minute breakfast program.

But “we always need to remember our roots," said Ms. McAdams, encouraging more work so “dreams can be a reality" for everyone.

Moments earlier, Mr.

Qtrax service offers free music downloads; Warner Music denies ...

Qtrax touted in a news release Sunday morning that it was the first Internet file-swapping service to be "fully embraced by the music industry" and boasted it would carry up to 30 million tracks from "all the major labels."

New York City-based Warner Music undermined that claim, declaring in a statement it "has not authorized the use of our content on Qtrax's recently announced service."

Universal Music Group and EMI Group PLC later confirmed they did not have licensing deals in place with Qtrax, noting discussions were still ongoing. A call to Sony BMG Music Entertainment was not immediately returned.

Music services such as Qtrax must secure licensing agreements from the record companies, which own the rights to master recordings and music publishers, which control the rights to song compositions.
